My Favourite book

I thought I would share this, my very favourite book, with you, some years ago my mum got it for me in the Red Cross Shop she works in [a thrift shop] 50 cents was the grand price! It was first printed in 1930, this edition in 1933, the pages are all aged and yellow, and inside the book is filled with tales of "Important People" [Children]

What I found quite amazing was the following quote, obviously written around 1930,

"I suppose the modern child, though it is blamed as being bad at concentration and too fond of amusement, would seem very bright and clever to the child of a generation or two ago. Personally I don't put this down to any changes in children but to a change in educational methods and also in general life."

Ring any bells? Maybe things don't change so much after all!

Also inside, some of the most beautiful drawings of children, some done with just a few pencil strokes, some much more detailed, I have photocopied several of them onto parchment paper and framed them, I just love looking at them and often go through the book over and over just looking at those faces!

Is this not the cutest little face? She is definitly one of my very favourites, her name is Mary Elizabeth.

These two especially for Smooch, who has a thing for Monkeys.

This picture always reminds me of a photo of me and my sister and two brothers at the beach, 1965, have just added it here, that's me on the left, not really the same, but there's just something about it.

There are lots more beautiful pics in the book but it's time for me to head out the door, off to my painting class today.

That's a wonderful book!!!!

Ok, as for the bigolwhitespaceatThebottom...
just go in to edit your post and delete all the "space" after your last picture. It usually fills up like that after you move your pictures where you want them so you have to delete it back out. No biggie - it happens to all us on Blogger :)

Hi Marina. Your blog looks good. Love all the beautiful drawings in the book.
Was sorting all the old books in my mums garage, had to laugh, most were spaghetti westerns.
